LENGTH : 4 weeks , JAN 5 - 30 , 2026

TIME : Monday-Friday, 9am–4pm

This 4 week course will introduce the classical methods of training in the visual arts, enriching visual vocabulary and providing a methodology that can be applied to your art disciplines.

The program is a shortened version of our full-time program to support the needs of students who want to learn the classical methods of drawing but do not have the time to pursue the full time program. The projects are using same methods and cast studies of full time program. Frequent demonstrations and critiques will be given by experienced Teachers of our full time program.

What you will be learning …

Bargue drawing and Cast drawing:

  • Core methods of our full time program in drawing and painting. Students get introduced to the foundational skills by learning, how to see their subject, and gain precision through practice and skill in handling their materials and tools

  • Students are introduced to sight size method to copy small Bargue drawings in pencil and Casts in Charcoal.

  • By the completion of a Cast Drawing student will be able to:

    • Apply the sight-size method and comparative size of measurement in order to view and reproduce the subject accurately

    • Compress values and translate three-dimensional form onto a two dimensional plane

    • Determine a Focal Point and represent it effectively

    • Create the impression of depth, distance, and atmosphere among different areas of the drawing

Figure Drawing from Life:

  • Students are introduced to sight size method and comparative method in figure drawing

  • Students start with Life drawing classes in pencil. Pencil drawing reinforces the importance of learning to reproduce the subject’s outline and shadow line accurately.

  • Students continue on a Long Pose figure drawing using Nitram Charcoal as a medium and then address values in their drawings and key them to what they see in nature. By relating the values of the figure to the values in the background, the student gives a sense of space and atmosphere within the pictorial plane.

Cast Painting (Grisaille palette):

By the conclusion of Cast painting student will learn to :

  • Paint the plaster Cast in grisaille, using black, raw umber, and white (Limited Palette). Tonal painting builds on the grisailles,

  • Students are introduced to painting techniques including paint mixing values in neutral, cool and warm scales.

Portrait Drawing from life or Still Life painting : (Only one can be chosen)

  • By the conclusion of Portrait drawing in charcoal, student will learn:

    • Methods to compose the setup of portraiture in its space

    • Draw with Nitram charcoal the likeness and character of the model

    • Demonstrate sound drawing techniques

  • By the conclusion of Still life painting full palette, student will learn to:

    • Successfully apply drawing skills to the painting medium technique
